As an organisation we believe in the 'Wellness' approach to care, we want to support people to be as independent as possible. What this may look like is if someone can brush the right side of their hair, they do, and we brush the left. Someone might shave their face and we just touch up after, any bits of stray hair. Someone might not have the strength to chop vegetables, but adding other ingredients and stirring they can do. We are coming into your home and supporting your individual body, with individual needs, we want to be a support to the life you're already living, not take over or intrude.
Services We Offer
*Currently we can only offer services to self managed or plan managed participants.
Personal Care - This really covers any hygiene or grooming tasks that a person might need support in like showering, hair washing and brushing, shaving, assistance getting dressed or fastening buttons and zips etc. Applying moisteriser and sunscreen. Our Support Workers are trained to gently and correctly provide care to avoid skin tears and maintain skin integrity as much as possible, while maintaining the dignity and modesty of our clients.
Toileting - This covers a range of support from prompting toileting, assistance with cleaning and maintaining skin integrity while using continence aids. And physical assistance with mobilising to and from the toilet or commode chair.
Manual Handling & Hoisting - Our Support Workers are trained in the correct and safe way to support a participant to sit, stand or transfer. We are also trained in using a variety of hoist machines and Sara Steady. Before starting we will familarise ourselves with your particular hoist, commode, wheelchair and any other equipment used in the duration of your care.
Medication Assistance - With a 'Medication Authority' from your GP we can assist with administering medications from Webster packs, inhalers, creams and balms, eyedrops, oral medications as well as any over the counter medications noted by your doctor. Moisterisers, barrier creams and sunscreens do not need Medication Authorities. We cannot administer injections and we currently cannot handle any cytotoxic drugs (commonly found in chemotherapy medications) Cytotoxic medications need specific PPE and disposal processes and can be very harmful for the Support Worker and general public if not handled and disposed of correctly.
Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG Feeding) - Following the Dietician's guidelines, formula is administered via tube into the stomach. Hygiene and infection protocols are followed, as well as stoma site care, any concerns or infections are reported to client, NOK and medical professionals. We also liaise with the PEG & Stoma Clinic at Bunbury Regional Hospital if any concerns arise or extra support is needed. Our Support Workers have undergone additional training to be able to provide this service.
Assisted Feeding - Sometimes people need prompting, support or spoon feeding to help them with their nutrition goals. Various conditions such as a stroke or Parkinsons disease can reduce the control or strength in the hands and fingers and some people may need support in this area. Our Support Workers are trained in assisted feeding and Dysphagia support as well as using and administering thickened fluids.
Meal Preparation - Our Support Workers can assist with washing, chopping, cooking meals alongside our clients. For client's who cannot cook for themselves at all we can prepare meals from start to finish. Clients need to organise the purchase of groceries before the meal prep shift. Client's can book and pay for a 'click and collect' grocery order at the supermarket and we can pick it up on our way - you will be charged for time and kilometers. Or a supermarket delivery might be arranged before staff arrive.
Transport - Unfortunately we only have unmodified vehicles at present, so we are unable to transport participants who are unable to weight bear and transfer without their wheelchair. For participants who can weight bear and transfer we can transport you and transport your wheelchair or mobility aid. Transport is charged at an hourly rate and a per kilometer rate. Our Support Workers can transport you to your errands, shopping centre, activities or medical appointments.
Social Support - Some people need physical or emotional support to get out of the house and attend local activities. Maybe you want to stay home but still want someone to check in, have a chat, or keep you company while you go for a walk or exercise. Mental health is just as important as physical health. If you are attending a paid event, you will also need to cover the cost of the Support Worker's entry. Alternatively you can apply for a Companion Card which some businesses and events recognise and will waive the fee of your Support Worker https://www.wacompanioncard.org.au/
Domestic Assistance - These are everyday chores that need to be done to maintain a tidy home. Such as dusting, dishes, laundry, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms etc. Most of our Domestic Assistance shifts are 2 hours and they are a quick maintenance clean. Cleaning jobs such as ovens and windows are considered 'deep' cleaning and you will need to book additional time on top of your regular clean for those tasks.
Welfare Check - A 20 minute visit is usually enough to conduct a welfare check. During that time we check that the client has eaten, has taken their medications, doors and windows are locked, gas and water isn't running. The client is dressed appropriately for the weather and is settled. A welfare check can happen at any time of day, but they more commonly happen in the evening. Sometimes if people are recovering from surgery they may want a welfare check for a few weeks to make sure they're adjusting at home. Some client's with Dementia may need a welfare check in the evening to make sure they're safe and settled for bed. Or if you have just moved to the area, you may want a welfare check while you settle in to reassure and feel safe and secure. Welfare checks are exempt from our 2 hour minimum shift charge, however provider travel is charged.
